What eszopiclone is used for
Eszopiclone treats insomnia, covering both difficulty falling asleep and waking repeatedly. It shortens the time taken to get to sleep and helps sleep stay continuous. More on the condition is on the insomnia page.
How it works
The medicine binds at the GABA-A receptor complex and enhances neuronal inhibition, calming nerve-cell activity. That reduces the time needed to fall asleep and supports sleep continuity, so the night is less likely to break up.

In pregnancy it is used only where the potential benefit outweighs the risk, and it is not recommended while breastfeeding. It is for adults only.
