DDAVP is a tablet containing desmopressin 200mcg, a vasopressin analogue used in the management of diabetes insipidus, bedwetting and nocturnal enuresis. It is made by Ferring Pharmaceuticals and is also known as Desmomelt and Desmotabs.

Desmopressin increases water reabsorption in the kidneys, reducing urine volume and frequency. Tablets act within 30 to 60 minutes and the effect lasts 8 to 12 hours. Taking in more fluid than the body needs while urine output is limited can cause water intoxication with hyponatraemia, a low blood sodium that can be fatal unless properly diagnosed and treated. Severe headache or confusion should be reported. Desmopressin is not suitable for people with heart failure, habitual polydipsia, hyponatraemia or hypersensitivity to desmopressin, and blood sodium needs closer monitoring with medicines such as tricyclic antidepressants and carbamazepine.

FAQ

Do I get the original DDAVP?

No. DDAVP is the original brand from Ferring Pharmaceuticals; we use the name so you can tell which medicine it is. What we send is a generic with the same active ingredient (desmopressin) at the same dose, usually a well-known Indian branded generic. Which brand you get depends on stock.

What is DDAVP for?

DDAVP contains desmopressin and is taken for diabetes insipidus, bedwetting and nocturnal enuresis. Desmopressin replaces natural antidiuretic hormone by increasing water reabsorption in the kidneys, reducing urine volume and frequency while maintaining stable internal fluid levels.

Does DDAVP go by other names?

You may also see desmopressin sold as Desmomelt and Desmotabs.

What side effects should I know about with DDAVP?

The ones people notice most with desmopressin are headache, nausea and abdominal pain. Some people also get hyponatraemia and dizziness. Rarer but serious: convulsions and severe water intoxication. These need urgent medical help.

Can I take DDAVP alongside other medicines?

Desmopressin can interact with tricyclic antidepressants and carbamazepine. Before you start DDAVP, let your doctor or pharmacist know everything else you take.

How fast does DDAVP work?

Desmopressin usually kicks in within 30 to 60 minutes, and the effect tends to last around 8 to 12 hours. Timing varies from one person to the next.

How much is DDAVP?

DDAVP comes in a 200mcg strength, in packs of 30 to 180 tablets. You'll see the price per tablet for each option above, in ringgit by default or another currency you choose. Bigger packs work out cheaper per tablet. Pay with Bitcoin or Ethereum and you get an extra 10% off.

  • Inactive ingredients, tablet appearance and packaging can differ from the original brand; the active ingredient and dose are the same.
