Fluconazole inhibits the fungal cytochrome P450 enzyme 14-alpha-demethylase. This disruption prevents the synthesis of ergosterol, a vital component of the fungal cell membrane, thereby inhibiting fungal growth.

Diflucan is a tablet containing fluconazole, a triazole antifungal, made by Pfizer and also known as Forcan. It is supplied in 50 mg, 100 mg, 150 mg and 200 mg strengths and is used in the management of candidiasis and cryptococcal meningitis.
