Patient summary
Ciprofloxacin film-coated tablets from 250mg to 1000mg, used for urinary, respiratory and gastrointestinal bacterial infection. A fluoroquinolone.
Mechanism of action
Ciprofloxacin interferes with the bacterial enzymes DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, which are necessary for DNA replication, transcription, repair, and recombination, effectively halting bacterial multiplication.
Cipro contains ciprofloxacin, a fluoroquinolone antibiotic. It is supplied as film-coated tablets in 250, 500, 750 and 1000mg strengths and is used for bacterial infection, including urinary tract, respiratory tract and gastrointestinal infections. Bayer is the originator company; the medicine also appears under the names Ciproxin and Ciplox.
Ciprofloxacin inhibits bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, enzymes bacteria need to replicate. A boxed warning reserves it for patients with no alternative option for acute exacerbation of chronic bronchitis, acute uncomplicated cystitis or acute sinusitis. Fluoroquinolones, including ciprofloxacin, have been associated with disabling and potentially irreversible reactions such as tendinitis, tendon rupture, peripheral neuropathy and central nervous system effects. It is contraindicated in people with hypersensitivity to fluoroquinolones or a history of tendon disorders.

FAQ
What conditions does Cipro treat?
Cipro contains ciprofloxacin and is taken for bacterial infections, urinary tract infection, respiratory tract infection and gastrointestinal infection. Ciprofloxacin interferes with the bacterial enzymes DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, which are necessary for DNA replication, transcription, repair, and recombination, effectively halting bacterial multiplication.
What does Cipro cost?
That depends on the strength and pack you pick. Cipro comes in 250, 500, 750 and 1000mg strengths, in packs of 10 to 360 tablets. You'll see the price per tablet for each option above, in ringgit by default or another currency you choose. Bigger packs work out cheaper per tablet. Pay with Bitcoin or Ethereum and you get an extra 10% off.
Does Cipro go by other names?
You may also see ciprofloxacin sold as Ciproxin and Ciplox. Here on MayChemist, the same ingredient is also available as Ciloxan.
What are the possible side effects of Cipro?
The ones people notice most with ciprofloxacin are nausea and diarrhoea. Some people also get dizziness and rash. Rarer but serious: tendon rupture and convulsions. These need urgent medical help.
Is the Cipro here the brand version?
No. Cipro is the original brand from Bayer; we use the name so you can tell which medicine it is. What we send is a generic with the same active ingredient (ciprofloxacin) at the same dose, usually a well-known Indian branded generic. Which brand you get depends on stock.
How fast does Cipro work?
Ciprofloxacin usually kicks in within 1 to 3 hours. Everyone is a little different.
What shouldn't I combine with Cipro?
Ciprofloxacin can interact with theophylline, calcium supplements and dairy. Before you start Cipro, let your doctor or pharmacist know everything else you take.
Do I need a prescription to order Cipro here?
No, not online. MayChemist doesn't ask for a prescription to order Cipro. We're an online store, not a dispensing pharmacy: we place your order and arrange the delivery for you.
Ordering without a prescription →Can I get Cipro delivered in Malaysia?

How ordering works →What you will receive
Cipro is the originator brand name, made by Bayer. We use it here to identify the medicine only; we are not affiliated with Bayer and do not ship the original Cipro.
- You receive a generic equivalent: the same active ingredient (Ciprofloxacin) at the same dose, mostly recognised Indian branded generics from vetted manufacturers.
- The exact brand supplied depends on what is in stock at the dispatching warehouse.
- Inactive ingredients, tablet appearance and packaging can differ from the original brand; the active ingredient and dose are the same.
